“Somebody Else’s Guy” is a track from 1984 by Jocelyn Brown, who began her career in the 70’s as a studio singer for artists like Cerrone and Inner City. In the 1990’s some of her records started to be sampled by House and Rap producers. Since then, her contribution to the world of dance music has been largely recognized. She worked with countless artists of the genre, such as Todd Terry and Cassius.
Brooklyn’s Treasure Fingers sampled the vocals for his awesome tune “What Am I Supposed To Do” which is one of my favorite tracks ever. No official release but a 320kb/s mp3 is still up for grabs if you haven’t picked it up already.
Download: Treasure Fingers - “What Am I Supposed To Do”
From the same track are the vocals for “I Got One” (also awesome tune) by Homework from Amsterdam, released some time ago on Exploited. It got a lot of support from DJs such as Jesse Rose, Brodinski, Feadz, Mowgli and Joyce Muniz.Listen: Homework - “I Got One (You’re It)”
You can buy it on Beatport or Boomkat.Great post. Jocelyn is one of the all time best and an icon in house and dance music.
indeed.
